Moshannon Valley
Coal and lumber carved out the spine of Houtzdale and her sister town, Brisbin, in the 1800’s. Just as important was the railroad and the infamous “Alley Popper” of the Pittsburgh and Susquehanna railroads. The name Alley Popper came from the trains crossing and stopping at almost every street and alley along the route, which ran from Philipsburg. Visitors can visit its namesake restaurant and lounge just outside of town on SR 253.
You will enjoy the rich heritage and historic sites or Downtown Philipsburg.
