Our Heritage
Because of its colorful mining and lumber history, Clearfield County also is a natural melting pot, where several cultures have come together, yet maintain a distinct identity. Experience them all in the multitude of local festivals and events held each year.
As a matter of fact, Clearfield County could almost be called “The Land of Festivals.” Nearly all of our municipalities have a festival or annual event. Add to that the celebrations of various ethnic and cultural traditions, down-home church dinners and other fun activities, and you’ll find there’s always an opportunity to get into our communities and get to know us.
One great way to get to know us and our fascinating heritage is by taking the Heritage Road Trip. It will wind you to several important local sites and through towns where the locals will be happy to share stories about our colorful traditions ( with some vivid imagination thrown in!).
Be sure you come hungry. We aim to feed.
What do you like? Gyros, pierogies, haluska or perhaps baklava? How about a hot dog, meatball sub, potato salad, or a Central Pennsylvania Red Sauce Hoagie? We’ve got them all.
When you’re full, walk it off by checking out the works of local artisans, craft persons, and folk artists on display. You’ll find everything under the sun from apple- carvers to wood turners and more, each taking pride in the craft handed down to him or her.
Avoid the humdrum vacation trap. Plan your Pennsylvania Wilds Get Away around area heritage events!
