There are three unique galleries in Clearfield County. The Kyrie Gallery, located near the peaceful confluence of Chest Creek and the West Branch Susquehanna River, features a variety of art mediums. Winkler Gallery in downtown DuBois is a show case for several  award-winning area artists. At A Frame for you, featured pieces and prints can be custom framed. Go to  the Things to Do Map, and it’s easy to click it, map it and customize your gallery road trip!

Folk Art

Folk art created along this part of the Appalachian Plateau is unique and beautifully distinct from other regions stretched throughout this grand old mountain chain.

So just what is it that puts the “folk” in “folk art?”

Folk artists generally use ordinary materials around them to create a work that shares their view of the world around them. Every day objects, such as rock, wood, fiber, and nowadays trash (in this modern world, it’s in no short supply!) are used to produce works of beauty and wonder.

When the artisan places his or her touch on the materials of their craft, the transformation is like magic!

A rock becomes a rabbit. A piece of log is transformed into a bear cub. Birch, cherry and mulberry sticks and branches are transformed into beautiful bowls and baskets.

Cast –away items become treasures fit for display in the most upscale of decors.

When you take home a piece of folk art, you are purchasing more than an object.

A little of the artist’s heart and soul are included with each. Each piece is created in his or her style, or signature, if you will, that identifies the work as theirs and no one else’s.

We invite you to visit the shops, forges and studios of our local artisans.

Please call or email ahead before visiting, and allow plenty of time for looking, learning and falling in love with something you won’t be able to live without!
