Canoeing/Kayaking
With 102 miles of the 228-mile West Branch of the Susquehanna River meandering through the county, there are plenty of water types for all skill levels. Beginners may find it easier to begin a trek in Curwensville, running downstream to Clearfield, while those with more experience may want to try out some of the swifter flowing currents from below Shawville. In addition to the West Branch, there are quality paddling waters on Chest Creek, Anderson Creek, Clearfield Creek and Little Clearfield Creek. Janesville Dam has a 10-acre lake, and is a good place for beginners or those learning how to paddle. For more information about paddling the county’s water passages, call 814-765-1410.
There are several great races on the West Branch and her tribs each year. Be sure to check the event calendar for the latest dates and registration contact information.
