50th Annual Search for Peace

The Search for peace brings the birth of Christ to life through music and narration.

Search for Peace

The Search for Peace is presented annually at the Curwensville United Methodist Church by the members of the community and surrounding areas. Unlike other Christmas plays, this pageant is performed entirely in the dark. The story is told solely through music and narration, using spotlights to present the scenes.

The Pageant explores the journey of the prophets, Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, the villagers, Kings and Wise Men and each of us. Uniquely, the pageant employs talented people of all ages from our community, although the original cast was comprised of teenagers.

In setting the scenes, the architecture of the church creates a exceptional setting for this special Christmas Pageant, for example, the semicircular sanctuary lends itself to the opening scene where the “prophets” seem to surround the audience and in the finale scene “Gabriel: rings the church bell in full view of the audience.

The Search for Peace marks the Beginning of the holiday season for many, a tradition that gets us ready for the real coming of Christmas. Through the ministry of The Search for Peace, we hope that this holiday season, you, too, will find peace, joy and harmony.

About the author…. Mrs. Laura Wright, author and director for 35 years, had the ecumenical vision that has brought hundreds of people together to touch thousands of lives. The pageant was first presented in 1960 in the Curwensville United Methodist church, under the direction and close supervision of Mrs. Wright. Mrs. Wright’s continued input to the pageant was vital in presenting this miracle of the nativity to the public and the pageant would not be what it is today without her.

The 2009 Pageant Schedule is:

Sunday December 6, show at 4:30 pm
