The Backwoods, Backroads, Backwaters Light up
What a great time of year to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What better place to do it than the backwoods, backroads, backwaters of Clearfield County.
There is a certain solitude that comes over you when the streets fill with decorations and light up the early evening skies. Each display represents the character of the town they are in and its holiday traditions. A trip to this region will definitely put one in the spirit.
The downtowns are a great place to start; each one has its own personality. The county seat of Clearfield hangs all white snowflakes on Front and Market streets that add to the ambiance of the attractive store fronts. Witmer Park located on the river glows with all the colors of the season and neighbors the downtown Santa House. DuBois is full of displays and lights. Downtown glows with white sparkling lights in the form of snowflakes and winter figures. The real treat is seeing all the different trees that are decorated and lit throughout the downtown. The old-fashion pole lights are what you’ll find when driving through Curwensville. Candles, trees and candy canes with lights and garland hang from every light pole on State and Filbert Streets. Many homes throughout Curwensville host their own displays of holiday spirit and make the trip through town electrifying. Coalport has angels, bells and stars lighting up their streets. Neighboring homes showing off their holiday spirit can be seen along the way. The backroads are full of homes in all colors and shapes so a quiet drive through the county is sure to delight all from one to ninety-two.
The true taste of the holidays can be seen in the township of Beccaria. Hordes of traditional and whimsical Christmas lights can be seen out your car window. There is the little tree that bends over and helps the star climb on top, the ice skaters who chase each other in a circle while a flame keeps them warm, a swan on a lake of lights, as well as bowling. Don’t forget the jack in the box as he jumps up to wave his greeting. The horse drawn carriage with wheels turning makes you want to climb on board for a quick ride. Across the street you have the Teeter-totters with kids having fun, while a cross skier glides across the snow. Catch a glimpse of the roller coaster and kids as they go up and down the hills, or the soldiers and American flag. Don’t miss the nearby display of 101 Dalmatians, with Cruella de Vil, Beauty and the Beast with Belle and even Chip. Snow White and her Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, Bambi, Dumbo, Flower, and Thumper await a visit too. Now you’re in the spirit.
So Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
