March is Maple Sugaring Season at Parker Dam State Park and you can come learn how real maple syrup is made. You’ll discover the sweet story of maple sugaring—how it was discovered, how it was made years ago, and how you can make it today. You will see examples of both backyard hobby and large scale facets of the sugaring trade. Learn to identify maple trees in winter, how to choose the right trees for tapping, where to place the taps, and so on. A few lucky participants will tap a maple tree, gather in the sap, and help out. Best part—there will be free taste samples for all visitors. Discover the tradition. Meet at the Sugar Shack, near Pavilion 7—just past Cabin Road.

March is typically maple sugaring season here at Parker Dam, but the process is very weather dependent—and as we have been experiencing, the weather can be fickle. Regardless, we will be covering how maple sugaring started, how the practice has changed over the years (and yet remained the same), and how the big producers make syrup, and how you can make it in your own back yard. From identifying maple trees in winter, to where and how to tap, to what you can use to gather the sap, and finally how to turn that fresh maple sap into pure maple syrup. Taste samples at the conclusion of the program Demonstration Dates: Each demonstration starts at 2:00pm. March 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th,16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, and 30th

Mathias Croft will be presenting a benefit concert at Hyde Weslyan Church in Clearfield. This concert is to benefit Emmanuel Wesleyan Bible College in Eswatini, Africa. Born in Eswatini, Mathias Croft was abandoned by his biological parents when he was two months old. Later he was adopted into a loving, Christian family growing up on the Emmanuel Wesleyan Bible College Campus. He hopes to pursue songwriting and music. The concert will feature some of Mathias's original songs. The college is going through a time of exciting changes, working toward Swazi academic accreditation, introducing new programs and also planning building projects to generate income. Mathias felt it on his heart to help the college raise funds, so he decided to use his gift of music. Another Swazi, Menzi Hlope, who is attending school in South Carolina, will be part of the band. Several people who have been impacted by the college will also speak.  Free admission. Contributions for the college are accepted.
